Guidelines for Teacher use of the AHS Library

1. Talk with the Librarian prior to signing up classes for library or equipment use. Plan ahead as much as possible.

2. Walk your students to the library and make sure the entire class is present and quiet BEFORE entering the library.

3. Review and model appropriate library behavior with students before and during library visits: use quiet voices; no food; use appropriate language; respect library equipment and furniture by cleaning up before leaving the library.

4. Your classes are primarily your responsibility when they are in the library. Please help enforce library rules and appropriate Internet use by actively monitoring your students.

5. You should not plan on having whole classes come to the library when there is a substitute teacher. (Exceptions may be made if the class has been directly working with the Librarian on an ongoing project).

6. Send students with a yellow pass during class time - indicate what they should be doing on the pass and when they should return. Require students to return with the library pass signed by the librarian so that you can see whether students have actually been to the library. Send no more than 6 students at a time unless previous arrangements have been made.

7. Advisory: Students must get an Advisory pass from the Librarian PRIOR to Advisory.  Please do not send students to the library during Advisory (for printing, checking out a book, typing a paper, research, etc.) unless they present to you an Advisory pass signed by the Librarian.
